My main research interests focus on ancient Near Eastern history from the Persian Achaemenids down to the early Seleucid empire, including the actions of Alexander in the East. While my undergraduate thesis explored Plato’s use of Socrates in the Socratic dialogues, particularly the Phaedo, and the use of Socratic eironeia, my MSt thesis will explore early Seleucid ruler-cult as a legacy of Achaemenid Persian and Graeco-Macedonian practice. In doing so, I hope to critically evaluate to the Eurocentricity of current research and the importance of integrating both near eastern and Graeco-Roman sources with their archaeological and epigraphical equivalents.
