My thesis focuses on Ennius’ stylised language, aiming to illustrate his varied approach to language and style across his distinct works. Specifically, I examine the Annales as an example of original, sophisticated, and experimental Latinity – despite a generally high-register patina; the Euhemerus as an example of simple style and prose register; the tragedies as an example of standardised high-register language. Additionally, I look for any stylised patterns and uses in Ennius' minor works and unassigned fragments that can be attributed to high or low literary genres.
