I am a historian of ancient Greece with broad interests in the field of social and cultural history. I have worked on the practice and ideology of Greek tyranny, on ethnicity, especially in the Peloponnese, on Greek historiography, and on the origin of the Greek alphabet. Most recently, I have been focusing on the cultural history of early Hellenistic Athens. I have a special interest in folktale and the sociology of popular narrative.
